Episode 9 – The Reading List

Four girls out delivering papers one morning get caught up in a reality-bending time-travelling adventure. A think tank unleashes a magic-infused artificial intelligence upon the world, and now struggles with the consequences. And fifty citizens in a fairytale kingdom are caught up in a deadly contest to decide who will rule. We discuss 3 of our favourite recent comic book releases – Paper Girls, Injection and Geis. We also discuss why we don’t want to know who the new Doctor Who will be, and rule ourselves out of directing the new Batman movie.

Paper Girls by Brian K Vaughan (writer), Cliff Chiang (artist), Matt Wilson (colourist), Jared K Fletcher (letterer) from Image Comics

Injection by Warren Ellis (writer), Declan Shalvey (artist), Jordie Bellaire (colourist), Fonografiks (letterer) from Image Comics

Geis by Alexis Deacon from Nobrow Press

Episode 8 – An Expansive TV round-up

Join us for musings on a multitude of genre TV offerings! We discuss two new sci-fi shows: the TV adaptation of The Expanse series of books and the intriguing, original mystery The OA. And after defeating the Invasion in a fantastic crossover event, we chat about the status of the DC TV universe and marvel (!) at how great Legends of Tomorrow has become, even as the grumpy Arrow tries to put a downer on everything.

Plus with all the brand new shows coming out in this year, we focus on the some  returning shows we’re looking forward to. There are third seasons of Better Call Saul, iZombie and Twin Peaks, an eighth season of Archer and the fifth and final season of Orphan Black. We speculate on how the latter will end – we hope we’re right but we’re almost certainly wrong (hint: it involves dinosaurs).

Episode 7 – A Link to the Podcast!

Zelda! Mario! Splatoon! Strange wild west quick draw! Crazy boxing arms! It was all there at the launch of the Nintendo Switch, and we got up at 4am to watch it, as you do. Join us as we pour over the list of upcoming games and discuss what we are most looking forward to.

We also go in-depth on everything we know so far about Zelda: Breath of the Wild including its incredible new trailer. Where does it fit into the timeline? What is it like to hear voice acting in Zelda for the first time? And will Becks get stuck for 2 years like she did with Skyward Sword?

Episode 6 – The Knightmare after Christmas!

In our first guest episode we reunite half a team of adventurers from classic kids TV fantasy gameshow Knightmare!

It was over 20 years ago that Becks and Row faced down the perils of the dungeon… and met with an (oooh, nasty) fate. Now Row joins us to reminisce about the D&D style audition process, how the show was made, and just how method Treguard was in between takes. Plus we ask whether following the Adventurers Code was the right thing to do…

Episode 5 – we’ve gone Rogue

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is out! Join us for spoiler-filled musings on the newest entry in the Star Wars series. Although we shouldn’t be advocating not listening to our podcast after only a few episodes, don’t listen until you’ve seen the movie.

Plus some thoughts on the new trailers for the Power Rangers movie, Twin Peaks and Blade Runner 2049, the latter revealing the confusion in picking out Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds and Chris Evans in a line-up.

Episode 4 – for the Shaun Tan fan!

Following the recent release of The Singing Bones by Shaun Tan, we muse on this fairytale inspired artbook anthology, and some of his earlier works including The Arrival, Tales from Outer Suburbia, The Red Tree, and The Lost Thing.

Plus a few thoughts on Doctor Who spin-off Class season 1, and Ash vs Evil Dead season 2. (Spoiler – one gets a little better, one gets a little worse!)

Episode 3 – A Damn Fine Episode!

A Twin Peaks special! (Although it won’t be that special after we’ve covered it for the hundredth time…)

Join us as we muse on The Secret History of Twin Peaks by Mark Frost, Reflections by Brad Dukes, and the upcoming return of the show.
The owls are not what they seem!

We also take a tangent through the (ghost)woods on the subject of reference guides to TV shows past.

Episode 2 – alarmingly soon after episode 1!

Episode 2 is now up! Join us for more genre ramblings, this time about the return of the DC universe on The CW, including Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. Why are so many of the villains of Capital City unaware of Supergirl’s powers? Are Oliver Queen’s flashbacks an excuse for bad storytelling? And surely Legends of Tomorrow can only get better now the Hawks have gone?

We recorded this a couple of weeks back, and we’ll pick these shows up again around the time of the upcoming Invasion crossover. In general we’ll keep to UK air dates for talking about TV shows.
